HA7 Task 1 - Applications of 3D

3D Modelling
3D modeling is the process of developing a mathematical representation of any three dimensional surface of an object using specialized software. it can be displayed as 2D through 3D rendering or physically created using 3D printing devices. models can be created automatically or manually. three popular ways to represent a model are: Polygonal modeling, curve modeling and digital sculpting. The modeling stage consists of shaping individual objects that are later used in the scene. The modeling techniques include: Constructive solid geometry, implicit surfaces and subdivision surfaces.

Games

Games started off as just 2D through development of technology they now use 3D. This makes games more realistic and imersive. 3D also makes the games better quality and allows you to do more with a game.

TV

This particular TV show uses handmade minature sets and everything else has been modelled and put into the set. This means that the scene will be filmed using the camera to capture the scenery from the minature models. All other features would be added using animated 3d models.

  Film

In most animated films the characters were formerly drawn out. However now because of the 3d software which is available it means that characters can now be 3d which makes the animations more realistic.

Whereas in The Avengers film The Hulk character is played by a real life actor. Using 3d computer software the actors movements and facial expressions are then transformed into an animated 3d model of The Hulk.

Education

3d animation is used in education to create videos to help children learn new things such as numbers. This way of learning makes boring subjects such as numbers fun for the children to learn rather than having to just sit and listen to the teacher.

Medicine

Using 3D modelling linked to medicine is beneficial for medical professionals. It gives them the opportunity to look at the part of the body, system in a real life situation before they actually perform it on a person.

Engineering

This is a 3d printed jet engine which actually runs and turns on. It was made using a 3d printer. This printer could be used to make many more different types of engineering equipment.

Architecture

3D modelling is useful for architecture. It is used to mkae structures and or buildings and also the interior of buildings. It helps you to visualise what something is going to look like before you actually build it.

Product Design

3d printers are often used for product design. they make 3d models of items such as bikinis, guns, fashion accessories, 3d baby scans, cars, prosthetics and pretty much anything else you can think of.
